Hello families!
We had such an exciting first week back to school! It has been wonderful getting to know each student and learning classroom procedures to help build a strong classroom community. Make sure you ask your child about what he/she is reading. Each student should have a "good fit" book in their backpack. 4th graders are encouraged to read each day/night for 20 minutes or more at home. Once the reading is finished, students need to record the minutes and pages read. Please sign your initials to the bookmarker. This is one example of how students can earn "yards" and eventually score a touchdown! Additionally, once they finish a book, they can write a Book Review on Google Classroom and get 10 extra yards :) We have books in our classroom library, but we will also be going to the Media Center on Mondays where they can check out a good fit book there.
Sadly, we are still waiting on planners, so for the time being, a piece of paper will be sent home in their folder with all things you need to know. Please ask to see it each day. This is a great way to continue the conversation with your student about what is needed for school.
Thank you very much for all of the donations of supplies for our classroom! Many of the supplies will be used every day so we all appreciate it!
Testing for the NWEA will begin on Tuesday, September 13th. Students will take the NWEA in math and reading. We will begin testing each day at 10:00. We hope all testing is completed by the end of the week. Please consider not scheduling appointments if possible. Students can bring in gum or mints to have during the test to wake up their brains! The results from the testing are beneficial for our teacher team to use to get to know your child as a learner and begin to set learning goals.
This week Mrs. Abbott gave a presentation about the Safety Patrol Program for 4th graders. Below is the parent permission Google form. If your child wants to participate in the program, this form has to be completed. We will discuss the program more at Back to School Night, but if you click on the BTSN slides, the information is on slides 11 and 12. If you have any other questions, you can email me or Mrs. Abbott.
Below are links to Google forms and presentations for 4th grade. I will go over all of the information at BTSN, but if you want a head start, you can scroll through those.
If you haven't already, please fill out the Getting to Know You Google form. This form is very helpful in me getting to know your student.
Finally, just a reminder there is a late start this Wednesday.
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to send me an email. I hope you all have a great week!
