Hi Families!
Here are some reminders:
- Please make sure your student is bringing in a water bottle and snack every day.
- Students should be reading their good fit book every night and getting their bookmarks signed. This is one way for them to get five yards and eventually get a touchdown!
- You can also sign your student's planner for an additional five yards! This lets me know they are discussing what they are doing in school with you.
- Please send in headphones for your child if you have some. I will assign some to kids if needed.
- Conferences are coming up! Please sign up for conferences if you haven't already. The link will be below.
- If you haven't already, please fill out the Getting to Know You Google Form. This helps me learn more about your child and what goals and achievements you would like to see for your student :) The link will be below.
Late Starts: 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26

This Week's Academic Focus
Reading: Last week, I was conferring with readers regarding their "good fit" books. These conferences help me better understand each student as a reader. Starting this week, I will begin reading assessments. Using the data from the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessments, NWEA, and the reading conferences we have done, we will have a better idea of what reading strategies and goals each student needs. This week, students will also begin choosing reading goals for themselves. Over the next four weeks, I will read Winn Dixie, by Kate Dicamillo as an interactive read-aloud. These mini lessons focus on many different reading strategies, which cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary.
Writing: We will be working on descriptive writing and sentence structures.
Math: Last week we started Unit One in math. We revisited the idea of area and factors from third grade and started to work with mutliples. Students worked with rectangles and were given the area, and were finding the different side lengths that could make that rectangle! These side lengths can be known as factor pairs, two numbers that multiply together. This week we will continue working with factors and multiples, and improve our multiplication facts!
Science: We will continue working on the Human Machine Unit, and learning about how our body parts work together to do different things!
Please feel free to email me with any questions. Have a great week! :)
